Crossword glossary

Across: An entry read left to right; clues are listed in the Across section.

Down: An entry read top to bottom; clues are listed in the Down section.

Clue number: A small number in the grid marking where an answer starts; the same number can start both an Across and a Down.

Black square: A blocked cell (no letter). Mini grids use symmetric patterns of black cells.

White cell: A cell you fill with a letter.

Theme: The topic of the word list used to build the puzzle (e.g. animals, food).

Reveal: Filling a letter, a whole entry, or the grid from the server solution.

Check: Comparing your letters to the solution and highlighting errors.
